Metabothin
American Generic Labs introduced Metabothin in November 2005 along with
three other supplements as part of their new ephedra-based product line. The
new ephedra-based supplements including Metabothin were a result of the high
consumer demand following the 2005 overturning of the FDA ban on
ephedra-based products. With the FDA ban on ephedra-based supplements struck
down in April 2005, Metabothin is now available as a full-fledged ephedra
fat burner. Metabothin is American Generic Laboratories answer to the now
discontinued Metabolife 365. Metabothin contains all the ingredients of
Metabolife 365 including 10 mg of ephedra alkaloids per serving. Metabothin
is in keeping with the U.S. law which states that ephedra-based supplements
cannot have more than 10 mg. of ephedra alkaloids (from Ma Huang) per
serving.
Metabothin is one of two types of diet supplements generally available. The
first supplement type belongs to a group of metabolic optimizers that aid in
weight loss through a process called thermogensis. Thermogensis is a process
though which the body generates heat by increasing normal metabolism rates.
This rise in the metabolic rates is known by several different terms:
thermogenic effect, thermogenic response, or specific dynamic action (SDA).
One of the ways that thermogenesis is triggered is by certain supplements
(others include exercise, nutrition and exposure to cold). Two supplements
that produce thermogeneis effects are ephedra, and synephrine (a stimulant
chemically similar to ephedra) which boost metabolism causing the body to
burn calories faster. Metabothin contains 10 mg. of ephedra and 5 mg. of
synephrine which produce a high thermogenesis effect on the body which in
turn burns more calories from fat while maintaining muscle mass.
The thermogenesis effects of Metabothin contained in ephedra and synephrine
boost the body’s metabolism as we’ve seen, but another way that Metabothin
aids in weight loss is that it contains caffeine (from Guarana), which is an
appetite suppressant. When caffeine is paired with ephedra, they work
together as an effective fat burner. Caffeine extends the effect of ephedra
in suppressing the appetite and burning calories. The advantage of
Metabothin is that it is a strong appetite suppressant while at the same
time increasing metabolism to burn calories and creating heat to burn fat.
Metabothin also contains Ginseng, bee pollen and royal jelly that help to
make it more energizing.
Metabothin comes in 90 capsule bottle sizes. The recommended dosage is one
tablet taken before lunch or dinner. Side effects of Metabothin may include
jitteriness, nervousness, high blood pressure or heart palpitations. It is
important to remember that higher doses do not mean faster weight loss, only
more side effects. Do not take more than 10 mg. per day. When taking
Metabothin you should drink more water, you should not skip meals, and you
should not take late at night as it may keep you awake. Do not take
Metabothin if you are pregnant, have heart disease or high blood pressure,
or if you are diabetic. Do not combine with asthma medications as
concentrated forms of ephedra are used in over the counter cold, allergy and
asthma relief medications.
